How It Works
What Makes Me Different?
A Comprehensive Biomechanical Assessment
One of the primary differences between conventional personal training and my approach is the assessment. If you are not assessing, you are guessing, and unfortunately most personal trainers do not know how to properly assess people, which leads to poor exercise selection resulting in dysfunction, pain, and injury (no bueno!). I have spent the last 6 years learning over 75 advanced assessment techniques from the CHEK Institute giving me the skills to accurately assess movement patterns, posture, and biomechanics for any individual who walks through my gym door. With this knowledge, I can identify all of your imbalances and dysfunctions and design the exact workout program required to restore balance in your body and help you accomplish your goal effectively and efficiently.
Some of the assessments I use include:
- Head Carriage
- Upper Cervical
- Scapulospinal Rhythm
- Thoracic Flexion and Extension
- Lumbar Flexion and Extension
- Lumbo-Pelvic Rhythms
- Abdominal Wall Function
- Breathing Function
- Length-Tension Relationships of Muscles
- Primal Pattern Movements (Squat, Lunge, Hinge, Push, Pull, Twist)
CHEK Practitioner
My advanced training through the CHEK system has given me the tools to help clients achieve optimal health and vitality by addressing the root causes of health issues rather than just treating symptoms. Each of us have different muscular imbalances and dysfunctional movement patterns that require a unique set of corrective exercises and mobilizations to resolve. As a CHEK Practitioner, I design workout programs that restore balance back in your body. This increases your ceiling for aesthetic and performance achievement and allows you to accomplish your goal effectively and efficiently.
Some of the dysfunctions I have helped clients resolve include:
- Low back pain
- Rounded shoulders and excessive upper back curvature
- Shoulder pain and impingement
- Anterior pelvic tilt
- Tight hips
- Diastasis recti
- Weak abdominal wall and poor abdominal tone
- Breathing dysfunction
- Forward head posture
- Neck pain
My Training Style: Functional Bodybuilding
My training style strikes a balance between functionality and aesthetics. I place a strong emphasis on functional exercises that mimic real-life movements and activities, and have high muscle-building potential. This approach lends itself well to desirable adaptations in strength, mobility, stability, and body composition for myself and my clients.
Holistic Approach
Unlike most personal trainers, I use a holistic approach. The word ‘holistic’ scares some people, so let me quickly explain what I mean by that. This means that when I work with a client in an exercise capacity I look at more factors than just fitness when customizing their program. I take into account all factors of a person’s health and wellbeing to determine the optimal exercise prescription for the individual. Most personal trainers stick to just exercise with their clients, but I go deeper on topics like nutrition, lifestyle, belief systems and other aspects that are essential to your health and will have a direct impact on your body composition.
Some of the factors of health and wellbeing I evaluate:
- Physical, Emotional, and Mental Stress
- Inflammation
- Food Quality
- Breathing Pattern
- Digestive Function
- Sleep and Circadian Health
- Acute and Chronic Pain
- Medications and Prescriptions
- Previous injuries, surgeries and treatments
Hybrid Approach Options
One of the additional benefits of working with me is the opportunity to receive coaching in other areas outside of the gym. Many of the clients I work with in-person, I work with in other capacities as well, increasing their ability to accomplish their aesthetic, health and performance goals. Some of my clients can only afford to meet with me in-person 1-4x/month, so I make sure to formulate a plan that works for each individual.
Some examples of how I work with clients using a hybrid approach include:
- Design workout programs outside of our regular 1:1 Personal training sessions that you can do on your own
- Design entire workout programs that clients can do on their own, and we only meet once or twice a month to go over execution
- Individualized nutrition coaching to help you accelerate your ability to achieve your body composition goal
- Holistic lifestyle coaching that integrates nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset components that compliment your exercise program
- Monthly coaching calls to dive deeper into program, collaborate on solutions, and dissipate confusion on what you need to do to get to where you want to be
